Robo Cockroach

Cockroaches are insects that have flat oval-shaped, spiny legs, wings (but they don’t fly) with a pair of long antennae and six long. They thrive in filthy kitchens and left unchecked, they multiple and turn everything into a nightmare. But what if they can be controlled and turned into house maids. Hence the robo cockroach, a cockroach no bigger than a large paper clip can scurries across the floor controlled by Wi-Fi – it’s a robot-roach hybrid, a hardwired biological insect – a cyborg if you will. The robo cockroach can be controlled wirelessly moving back and forth, left or right through microstimulation in the antenna nerves. Soon we all may have these cockroaches cleaning are houses, parked in the robovac stall waiting for instructions.

Ants

The Ant has become the number one pest problem in B.C.  Ants can come in through even the smallest cracks, seeking water and food in the kitchen pantry or storeroom areas. Ants leave an invisible chemical path which contains pheromones for others to follow once they detect the food source. They can nest about anywhere in and around your house; in lawns, under driveways, foundations, walls, and stumps etc. Worker ants may live days to several years and the queen may live as long as 20 years. Most retail “diy” ant control approaches only kill the ants you see. Only truly effective ant specific treatments can penetrate and destroy nests to help prevent these pests from returning. So toss out those white ant tins – they are only feeding the ants.

Can We Just Live Together, Mr. Squirrel

In B.C we have two native squirrels, the Red squirrels and Douglas squirrels and the other invasive or alien grey/black squirrel. Squirrels, be it red, grey, black or brown are ingenious, frisky and unlike many mammals they tend not to hibernate. Their role in nature is to move seeds and nuts around the forest to diversify it. A squirrel needs to eat about a half a kilo of food a week, so if the seeds, cones, and berries aren’t enough then its your bird feeder or plants that they will attack. Keeping them out of your yard sometimes requires ingenious tactics that are at everyone’s disposal. Squirrels will avoid certain items such as alliums and daffodils, chicken manure, bone meal, coyote and dog urine. They have a few enemies including crows, owls, hawks, eagles, foxes, coyotes, cats and the occasional human.

Roaches

Cockroaches are the most contemptable bug – getting into your house through crevices and cracks, or carried inside in boxes, bags and second hand store items. They like warm temperatures where food and water are easily available (kitchens). These beasts are nocturnal and breed quickly when they get set-up. If you see one during the day it usually means that you are knee deep in a full blown severe infestation, its just a case of overcrowding. Like most insect, they leave pheromone trails in their feces, which interests other roaches looking for food and water sources. They can taint food with a number of different diseases and their cast-off cockroach skins, dead bodies and droppings can exacerbate allergies and asthma attacks. Bottom line – call in a pro to take care of them.
